In Primary 1, the focus is on laying a solid groundwork in basic numeracy and introducing fundamental concepts across three main strands

Numbers and Algebra

Key Skills	What Your Child Will Learn
Counting & Place Value	Read, write, and compare numbers up to 100 (tens/ones).
Addition & Subtraction	Solve problems within 100 using models and strategies.
Intro to Multiplication	Understand as repeated addition (e.g., 3 groups of 2).
Intro to Division	Learn equal sharing (e.g., dividing 6 sweets into 2 boxes).
Money Basics	Count coins/notes in cents and dollars.

Measurement and Geometry

Key Skills	What Your Child Will Learn
2D Shapes	Identify and describe squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles.
Length	Measure and compare objects in centimetres.
Time-Telling	Read analog clocks to 5-minute intervals (e.g., 3:15, 4:45).
Money Applications	Use addition/subtraction to solve simple money problems.

Statistics

Introduction to picture graphs (making and reading).

Picture Graphs	Read and answer questions from simple graphs (e.g., “How many children like apples?”).
